– We just uploaded seven new pics of “The Real World” Denver house at 1920 Market St., courtesy of Denver Post photographer extraordinaire Karl Gehring. Don’t worry: the pics from Friday’s launch party at Club Vinyl are still around. Just go under “Stuff” and click on Moblog/Photo Gallery to access them.
– I think these are easily the best straight-on house shots anyone has taken so far. Why, you ask? Because not only is Karl a professional photographer, but MTV has been known to chase away people with cameras, even when they’re on public property such as a sidewalk. I’m sure our new WEBCAM, just linked this afternoon courtesy of DenverPost.com, will make them thrilled…
– To that end, we have a little story e-mailed to us by a reader named Todd from Wheat Ridge. He was at El Chapultepec (one of the places that initially refused to sign a waiver allowing MTV to film there) on the corner of 20th and Market hanging with a couple of friends. He knew “The Real World” house was close and thought he’d try out his new digital camera by snapping some photos of it…
– He headed over with camera in tow and began shooting. Immediately a private security guard or MTV staffer (he’s not sure which, but “definitely not a cop”) approached him and intimidated him into stopping.
– “It was really upsetting to me when it happened, especially since it was in front of my friends,” Todd said. “If I can be more descriptive, I would say that the experience was emasculating. I am just a regular guy, out having fun with my camera, and this (security) guy was sort of towering over me. I was afraid of what he might do. I ended up walking away with my friends back to the lounge where we were enjoying some comradery together. I thought later that I could have called the police, but I just didn’t think that far: ‘Hello, police? Please send an officer over so that I can take some pictures.’”
– Todd’s now soured on the whole experience and expects that his interest in “The Real World” Denver is dead. “I realize that the Real World is a super buzzmaker in Denver,” Todd wrote, “but they are also nasty neighbors. Not all is rosy at 1920 Market St. If they want privacy, they should just close their curtains.”
–Chances are the cast won’t be using their MTV-provided hot tub, anyway, what with the face-melting, brow-drenching temps we’ve had recently in Denver (12 days of at least 90 degree-heat in the first two weeks of June alone, including over 100 degrees downtown today.)
The hot tub, btw, is hidden behind those green doors in the photo below, which opens out onto the street…
