–The two major daily newspapers in Denver (The Denver Post and The Rocky Mountain News) are often at odds with each other, and especially with our alternative weekly counterpart, Westword. But that rag just pulled a stunt so inspired and elaborate that I have to give them props. You can read about it here, but I’ll summarize below.
–Whether it was social experiment, practical joke or celebrity worship litmus test, Westword decided to assemble a fake “Real World” cast. They strode along Colfax Ave. and other streets with cameras and bogus credentials, hitting bars like Mezcal, Govnr’s Park Restaurant and Tavern and Hemingway’s. Predictably, a lot of people flocked to them like flies to manure, just for a chance to get on camera, while others were repelled by the artifice of it all (oh, if only they knew…)
–Despite the fact that some of the readers of GetRealDenver.com got fooled and wrote in with bogus tips (like fake cast members Alexis and Geoff having a row outside Govnr’s Park) we managed to dodge most of the bullets, as our Meet the Cast page still had a lot of correct info. Hey — that’s the nature of reader-supported, rumor-filled blog, yes?
