Showin’ the love

“Real World” Denver cast member Jenn at Pat’s Cheesesteaks in LoDo on Saturday.

– Yesterday’s Styles section of The New York Times had a story that mentioned “The Real World” Denver, among other reality TV shows currently in production, including quotes with people from our fair city. You can read it right here.

– We also have a report (and some new photos) from The Denver Post’s Scott Lieber about his experiences with the cast and crew over the weekend in LoDo…

Lieber writes: “A few cast members showed up at Pat’s Cheesesteaks on Saturday for some pre-drinking, and in a near-empty bar the cameras were easily recognizable.

Cast member Ty showed up around 11:30 p.m. and stayed for only about five minutes, when he left with cast member Alex. He chest-pounded one guy with a mohawk and tattoos, then said goodbye to another. Neither guys seemed to be cast members. The guy Ty said goodbye to appeared to be cast member Brooke’s love interest (could it be Kyle?) The guy with the mohawk and tattoos was kissing and dancing with cast member Jenn.

The cast and crew shuffled inside and outside, back and forth, to steal a smoke and converse between drinks. When the crew and cast appeared to have left and moved on somewhere else, I approached the two guys who had spoken with Ty and Alex and identified myself as a member of The Denver Post, but they had no interest in talking to me. Later I’d find out it’s because they’re actually part of the plot, as love interests of Brooke and Jenn. Oops.

The guy who appears to be Brooke’s love interest said they weren’t with the cast, that they had just met that night, but it was clear he wanted to get rid of me. Still, he could have been telling the truth. About 10 minutes after I finished speaking with him, a crew member mic-ed him up and taped the antenna to underneath his shirt in back. Why wouldn’t that be there before, if he had been a part of the show previously?

Jenn danced and made out with the guy with a mohawk and tattoos, and then ran off. Finally, the last to go were Brooke and her guy. They walked outside and waited in an adjoining parking lot, trying to track down where their roommates had gone. As they waited outside, one passer-by said in their general vicinity, but just out of their earshot, “This is the real world. F*** you.

Brooke and her guy realized the rest of the cast were at Jet Hotel and started walking there. They held hands and conversed and, while waiting for a light to change at 16th and Wazee, started hugging. A crew of about five walked alongside them, and when Brooke and the guy embraced, the crew tried subtly to fire up the camera and capture the moment. (Although, since they stood less than five feet away, with a boom mike and a camera light, they were hardly invisible.)

The crew seemed to have stopped their bullying ways (see earlier posts for the way they have dealt with the public). Even in Pat’s they must’ve known I was a member of The Post. After all, I told a cast member’s love interest who I was. I also walked virtually right behind them to Jet. But the crew gave me no hassles and ignored that I was there. Hooray for free press!”

– The cast and crew was also spotted at Spill on Thursday night, another one of their favorite hangouts. Reader Liz spotted them but said they remained fairly well-behaved.

“Some guy asked the off-duty cop with ‘The Real World’ if I was part of the cast as I was leaving Spill. I was just acting like I normally do when I’m having a good time. It humored me…” she said in an e-mail.

– We also have reports of another professional photographer following the cast and crew around on Saturday. Was it a rival local or national publication? (Sharks! Jets!) Was it another blog getting ready to launch? Or just an MTV still photographer shooting publicity shots?

  1. The pic you have of Jenn at Pat’s is definitely her! She is a lot hotter in person though. I tried to engage her in conversation a couple of times and she’s quite nice and talkative. In fact, the film crew didn’t really bother us - and the assistant guy was very polite when he asked me to sign the release form.
