– Seems this blog isn’t the only local media outlet interested in tracking “The Real World” Denver as it films in town for the summer. Dirt, a free publication located in Boulder, decided to follow our lead and get in on some of the reality TV action a few weekends ago. They sent a photographer and reporter out to follow the cast and crew as they moved around LoDo on a Friday in July…
– The date was likely July 21, the same night our reporter Scott Lieber was out taking pics of the kids (and getting the first positive ID of cast member Jenn). This would explain the multiple sightings people had of a “professional paparazzi” following them that night (probably the Dirt photographer), which piqued a lot of interest among our readers.
– You can read the Dirt article right here. As expected, writer Aimee Heckel was harassed by the crew for trying to take pictures and even given a hard time by a restaurant worker that wanted her to leave for taking notes, which apparently made an MTV production assistant extremely nervous. I’m guessing the waivers these places signed (which allow the cast and crew to film carte blanche in their establishments) are designed to put the fear of god into the employees. Boy, would we love to get a copy of one of those.

– A pushy Rock Bottom Brewery worker eventually told Heckel, ‘No really, will you please leave. I am sick of hearing him complain’ ( “him” being the production assistant). “I had better things to do,” she said, echoing my comment in this post about not wanting to be arrested by an angry off-duty cop simply for taking pictures. You’ve gotta choose your battles, right?
– Of course, she was called “a paparazzi” and “a stalker,” since those are the choice words the production assistants and other “Real World” crew like to use for anyone that dares (dares!) follow them or take pictures for more than a couple minutes. Because, you know, an MTV crew walking around a crowded bar district isn’t all that distracting or out of the ordinary either…
– The article also duplicated many of the quotes we had in this post and this post from our not-so-anonymous former reality TV star. So nothing revelatory, but a very interesting read. And it’s heartening to know I’m not the only reporter being branded a stalker for trying to take pictures of a TV show on public property.
