A vacation in Thailand, and then it’s goodbye to Denver
by John Wenzel on August 14, 2006

Thailand
Taa Toh Lagoon, a popular scuba diving spot off the coast of Thailand on Koh Tao island.

– Several readers have wondered where “The Real World” Denver would be taking their annual overseas cast trip, and when they’d be taking it. Our sources close to the show have confirmed that it will be in Thailand, and that when the cast returns later this month they’ll quickly film their goodbyes and pack up for home…

– The “Real World” Denver shoot was expected to last 17 weeks from the final week of May, which would have put them at a late September wrap date. But because Bunim/Murray Productions has already shot enough footage for the show, they’ll actually be leaving on Aug. 30. That gives them a little less than a week to film their tearful goodbyes, since they’ll be returning from Thailand on Aug. 24.

– The current Key West season of “The Real World” will air its reunion show in a couple weeks on MTV, and if past programming is any indication, they’ll use that opportunity to introduce the Denver cast. Keep your eyes peeled for the first official MTV announcement of the seven strangers we’ve been watching all summer long.

This blog will probably quiet down a bit after the cast leaves, but that will give us the opportunity to make the rounds to “The Real World” haunts and see what kind of impression they left on the city. Of course the bar and restaurant owners and employees are still muzzled for divulging any details until the show airs (confidentiality agreements and all) but we’ll do our best to bring you all the news about the show, what’s going to happen to their house at 1920 Market St. after they’ve abandoned it and anything else “Real World” Denver-related.

– And naturally, this blog will stay up and continue to update as anything else reveals itself. We’re especially looking forward to LiveBlogging on the show when it airs and comparing the way it’s been edited to what we actually witnessed with our own eyes

  2. A random question about when they leave. What will MTV do with the Real World House? Will they put it up for sale? Will it be able to be used as a house in the future?

  3. Jacq — Bunim/Murray Productions will likely sell the house to someone that will exploit its recognizability. They’ll either turn it into a bar or a high-end private residence. The liquor license is still active on it from when it was a billiards hall/bar.

  5. John, I read the lease on the Key West house since it was made public due to the court proceedings. In this lease MTV has a clause that prohibits the Owner of the house from using the Real World name for profit - ie. doing boat tours by it or selling it by saying it was the Real World home. Do we know that MTV owns this one?

  6. SJ — Yeah, Bunim/Murray bought the house from Heritage Bank, (which assumed the deed to 1920 Market St. from the former owners of B-52 Billiards in lieu of foreclosure), on March 8 for $2.7 million. It still has a liquor license, which Rock Island’s David Clamage is “babysittingâ€? so it’ll be there when it’s time to sell. And I’m thinking Bunim/Murray will likely sell it after they’ve moved all their A/V equipment out…

  9. May I just ask how accurate the info about the move out date is? Call me a stalker or a huge fan…I’d love to be there to witness the move out. If this info is true, I’m going to take off work that day and hang out in LoDo to check it out - pathetic, I know. So John…please let me know if this info is reliable please! Thank you.
