The last days of “The Real World” Denver

Mezcal
Mezcal, at 3230 E. Colfax Ave. The cast stopped by the restaurant on Friday for dinner.

– The cast of “The Real World” may be packing up and leaving town on later this week, but they seem eager to sneak in a few more nights of bar-hopping and drama before then.

– They hit a few different watering holes over the weekend, including Mezcal, The Public House, The Church and the brand-new RockBar. We received several e-mails from readers that spotted them and interviewed some people that partied with them

– Dinner on Friday night was at none other than Mezcal. It was “The Real World” Denver’s first visit to the East Colfax Mexican eatery and tequila bar — ironic considering that it was one of the first places the fake “Real World” cast stopped by during their stunt.

– According to our source at Mezcal, the cast was “Surprisingly low-key. They asked for the music to be turned down and, aside from that, just came in, ate, hung out for a while and had some drinks. It was really pretty non-intrusive. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be with the lights and the crew. Maybe they’re recording more elsewhere. The amount of time the lights and cameras are on is less often than I would have expected, and everybody was real pleasant.

– “There were a few people that were kind of stalkers,” our source went on to say, “but for the most part there were just looky-loos and that doesn’t last long. There really wasn’t that much interesting going on from far way.” The cast eventually paid with a combination of their own cash and money from the production assistants. They also thanked owner Jesse Morreale and told him they’d enjoyed their meals. Quite a far cry from the early reports of them stiffing people on tabs.

– On Saturday the cast and crew visited another Jesse Moreale-owned bar, the brand-new RockBar virtually across the street from Mezcal on East Colfax. The 2,000-square-foot, ’70s and ’80s rock-themed bar in the All-In Motel — a storied dive estbalishment — just opened on Friday, so “The Real World” obviously wasn’t wasting any time checking it out.

– The cast showed up around 11 p.m. and stayed for about an hour and a half, buying shots at the bar and hanging out in the Metallica/Pantera/Tool booth (all the booths are band-themed, including pictures of Hendrix, Guns n’ Roses, Scorpions and Iron Maiden). Their big booth in the back of the bar was right next to the dance floor, although it’s unclear if they cut loose like they have in other settings.

– “They paid their tab and everything!” said one reader that saw them there. “They appeared to be having a great time — very well behaved (I know, how uneventful!) Overheard exclaiming that the bar was very cool.”

Public House
The Public House in LoDo.

– Keeping up their hard-partying reputation, the cast went to the Public House in LoDo (about a block from their house) for a third straight night of partying. According to reader Heather, who hung out with them: “Steve, Jenn, and Davis were there along with some friends. Jerod (as mentioned from the other post… Jenn’s boy toy from the Bay Area) was there with Jenn and they kissed a little bit.

– “He seemed pretty close with the guys and they were dancing about. I talked to Jenn for a bit. She said she likes Denver, but misses the Bay Area. She said they did not know when they were leaving. They signed a contract, but the actual departure date is unclear; they just find out a few days ahead of time. She seemed really nice. Davis and Jenn were in deep conversation for a bit of it… Davis started to cry. The producer (?) sat nearby at the bar. My friend and I went to the Denver Diner after and then the producer showed up there as well. I joked with him that he was ’stalking us’ and we talked for a little bit (not really show related). The two cops waited outside for the most part. The cameras were not filming the whole time, which was interesting… it made the situation seem more ‘planned.’ The cast must have been to the bar before because they knew the bartenders pretty well.”

– It sounds like MTV is keeping the cast in the dark about when they’re going to leave, perhaps to heighten the drama when they actually tell them?

  1. I saw Davis and his Boyfriend at the club The Church on Friday night for a bit. They were up in the VIP area just hanging out…nothing too spectacular.

  2. I was the friend with Heather who was with them on Sunday night at the Public House, and I’d just like to say that Davis definitely didn’t wash his hands after doing his business in the bathroom, which shocked me with him being a prim and proper gay man probably concerned about his personal hygeine, but maybe amidst the cry-fest he was having when talking with Jenn he was a little distracted…

  3. I agree with the comments above - in all my encounters with the RW people, they’ve always been pretty polite - albeit a bit standoff-ish. I did not find them too intrusive but of course the camera and lighting can be a bit unnerving. I’ve signed about 5 or more release forms at this point - they ask to sign again even if you’ve signed it before. The assistants that approached me have always been cordial and friendly though they would not answer any of my questions besides what’s on that form. I can’t believe they’re leaving so soon.

  4. Decent people make a show. I do not think that something spectacular is needed.
