The Shelter, where “Real World” Denver cast member Tyree has been promoting club nights, and where he may return to work.
– Thanks to the “Real World” Spotting website, I was tipped off that “Real World” Denver cast member Tyree, was working nights at Tabu and The Shelter doing promotions for Kevin Kain Entertainment, a side job that he’d been rumored to have…
– Of course when I called “The Real World” house yesterday Tyree wouldn’t say much to me, since I identified myself as a Denver Post reporter, but I did talk to his boss, Kevin Kain, for quite some time about the cast and their future plans.
– Here are some bits of our conversation:
So I understand Tyree has been working for you as a promoter at Tabu and The Shelter?
Kevin: Yeah, when they got out here they started going around to different places, since this is the first season they were allowed to have side jobs to make extra money. Tyree was interested in the promotions thing. He had done it back in Omaha and was already a promoter out there. He came to one of my parties at Evolution nightclub on 22nd and Champa and asked me if there was anything for him to do. I put together a couple different promotions with him. He passes out flyers, we come up with concepts, do the booking, all that stuff.
Does he seem to like the job?
He’s actually pretty good at it. Once you have an idea of who your market is you can go directly to them. He’s at his nights every single week along with some of the other cast mates. They’ve been there pretty much every week, except for when they were in Thailand.
When did this all start?
Tyree started working for me at the beginning of July. He sat in on some meetings with me to get agreements for me at some nightclubs. He sat in with Regas (Christou, owner of The Church, Funky Buddha and other nightclubs) and me and Robert, one of the managers at Tabu.
We had heard that some of the other cast members would be getting jobs too. Like Davis at J.R.’s. Why didn’t those pan out?
The producers stopped some of their jobs. They wouldn’t let Alex work over at Rise because they felt like the hours weren’t worth it for him to be coming home late. I was told that Jenn was going to be go-go dancing at DC10, but I don’t really frequent DC10 so I don’t know. Tyree and I worked around that by just having him get home before curfew (1:30 a.m. nightly). Most of the time what he’s doing is at night and when we’re not having a party we’re out with flyers, clubbing.
What kind of hours?
I’d say about 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., Tuesday through Sunday. There’ a little bit of work during the day too.
What are some of the bigger things Tyree has done?
He booked DJ Kool. He booked Kelis, who was unable to come at the last minute. We had to make sure the management of those artists were willing to sign a waiver for any kind of broadcast, in case they ended up on “The Real World.”
Is Tyree interested in returning to Denver after the show’s over?
We’ve been talking and honestly, things at Tabu are very good. The Shelter’s very good. I know he wants to get into some classes around Denver. He’s going to go back to Omaha and checking on some things, and he may actually come back. Besides that, we’re planning on booking him at places to go around and speak. We have offers from some schools, six schools actually, from California to New York, that are interested in having any of the guys come and speak.
Speak about what?
Well, having them come by and speak about reality TV. They can do whatever they want after the show stops filming. I know a couple people that are past “Real World” cast members and just from what I’ve gathered from there, there are huge opportunities for speaking. Or if you have an idea in mind for a certain type of career, you can use the show to get that started too. I’m trying to get Tyree and Alex going. It’s all about your past, and if you’ve got a past on MTV you’ve gotta use it. And part of that for Tyree is in promotions.
Who do you think has the most potential?
Alex honestly is probably the most marketable of any of the guys. He’s a pretty kid (laugh) and girls absolutely love him, but he’s a sweet guy too, you know what I mean? He’ll probably have the most success utilizing his popularity for the time being. These guys will be booked for the next year to just appear and the crazy thing is, this has been the most stalked cast in history. Denver for some reason, they love “The Real World.” When they show up at the club, whether cameras are there are not, people go crazy. You can just watch how people flock around them.
Well… I’m probably responsible for some of that stalking.
Really?
Yeah, the blog I do has been watching them all summer. Anyway, do you think Denver’s going to look good on MTV, from what you’ve heard from the cast?
Absolutely, when this starts to air the country is going to see a nightlife side of the city. A lot of people outside of Denver wouldn’t assume Denver has such a nightlife as it does. We have really attractive people here. People think we’re a cowtown, so to see such a vibrant nightlife will be interesting.
Overall did you like working with Tyree?
He’s a really fun guy. We come from similar places so it was a pleasure working with him. We’re not going to stop here, we’re going to be working together for a while. We’re looking at a management agreement just for appearances right now.
So all the cast members are probably going to get managers after this to move their careers along?
Definitely. I don’t believe they’re allowed to sign any agreements until Thursday, so Tyree and I have been discussing it and that’s probably the direction we’re going to head in, just because I have a lot of connections with agents.
– So there you have it… straight from the horse’s mouth. It sounds like even though the show hasn’t aired yet, the cast members are getting their ducks in a row. Funny thing is, Kevin told me, he never even learned Tyree’s real last name…

His last name is Brown or Ballard and your welcome Kev for intreoducing you to Ty. I’m the one who connected yall. Good to know you never mentioned me cause it would not have been possible!!
