“The Real World: Denver’s” Davis hugs his boyfriend PJ at Denver International Airport.

– Just in time for Valentine’s Day, it’s a couples-themed “Real World: Denver,” with maximum relationship drama for your viewing pleasure. Davis’s boyfriend PJ comes to visit and Stephen’s girl Mercii shows up. Will they clash over Davis’s homosexuality? Will they hump each other like drunken animals? Will love triumph in the end?

– We start with Davis, Jenn and Colie visiting Pridefest 2006 at Civic Center Park. The annual gay pride celebration, which drew about 200,000 people last year, is filled with lots of fun things for the roommates to do, like be dicks to the locals. Remember our reader accounts from the summer? No? How about this?

– The girls stare blankly at everything as Davis talks to people in booths. He finds a church that accepts gay people and seems genuinely impressed. It’s the first time he’s truly comfortable with his sexuality. Good for him, I say.

– Back at the house, Tyrie shows up to the door — naked — to greet his girlfriend Jazalle, who has just come from a lingerie party. What world do these people live in? Tyrie wants us to know that walking around naked on national TV and showing us his “bits and pieces” still makes him blush, though. “Grandma, I’m sorry for doing it.” Thank god for modesty!

– As Stephen, Tyrie and Alex eat in the red brick-lined environs of Croc’s they discuss whether or not Stephen will be cool with Davis’s boyfriend showing up. Cut to Davis and Stephen going to church together at the historic First Baptist Church across from the state capitol, both dressed like nice altar boys.

Stephen practices his best sexy model face while listening to a line from Leviticus 12:10.

– Afterwards they’re reading the Bible while walking down 14th Street in the sun. Davis: “There are so many verses in the Bible that have injustice in the way they treat people.” Um, pointing out hypocrisy in the Bible is not hard. Still, he’s right. They walk down the 16th Street Mall to Market Street, Stephen remarking that he didn’t know you could be “genuinely gay and genuinely a Christian simultaneously.â€? Believe it, fool.

– Crappy emo music plays while they show religious iconography. Word. While hanging with Stephen in the courtyard, Davis reveals that his mom thinks he’ll get AIDS simply because he’s gay. Maybe she also believes in Scientology. But really, he just wants her to leave him alone. He also talks about how his brother hates him, and he couldn’t come home for Easter. Stephen is more or less speechless, then prescribes church as the answer. Dude, church was the reason.

– Back at Monarck (what is this, the 40th time they’ve featured that place?) the camera does what it loves to do: show them dancing. The next day Davis meets PJ at Denver International Airport (first reported here on June 28), and they make it back to the Jeep and kiss. At least TV has taken some strides by showing two guys kissing and not making a huge deal about it.

Ah, young love. Art thou as chaste as thou wouldst seem?

– They get back to the house and Davis gives a tour. Brooke appears, sizes up PJ, and makes a noise like she’s cuddling a puppy. “Ya’ll look so alike it’s eerie,â€? she says. She finds PJ innocent. Why? Because he’s clean shaven? Like regular Real Worlders, the guys waste no time getting into bed and making out while Stephen mills around uncomfortably.

– “I admit, I’m grossed out by gay sex. I’m looking forward to Mercii being here tomorrow,” Stephen says. He hauls it to the guest room and naps while Jazelle and Tyrie come in. Hmmm… Stephen looks pretty gay too in his baby blue briefs. Or, as Tyrie diplomatically puts it, metrosexual.

– On a rainy day Stephen goes to pick up Mercii, whom you may recall he’s more or less cheated on thus far. The roommates leave a note that they’re at Rise, a Blake Street nightclub where Alex interviewed for a job (see this post from the summer). Mercii meets Jenn and Colie, who look rabid and disoriented in their matching black tops. The roommates enjoy a little bottle service as Stephen and Mercii make up for lost time by, well, dancing.

– Intercut Davis and PJ making out in the shower with shots of Mercii and Stephen hanging out in bed. Cutely, they go on a double date to Crú wine bar, Stephen and Davis both wearing yellow tops. Don’t these fellas coordinate? Sheesh. Stephen says his dad is a military man, which explains a lot.

“Your hair just doesn’t taste as good as it used to.”

– Points must go to Stephen in this episode for proving how far he’s come with his homophobia. If this interview is any indication, the dude’s being portrayed accurately. Props also to the editors for making an episode out of this topic, which is relevant and worth talking about, especially in a country where gay people are still discriminated against, often violently.

– The preview for the next episode shows Colie welcoming her boyfriend Corey, who you may remember e-mailed this website to ask that we not mention him here, and hinting at the threat of legal action if we didn’t remove photos of him. Right… but being on a terrible national TV show is OK? Also, Brooke’s freaking out, and Alex and Jenn are just plain freaking. Yum.
