RW Denver: “S@#t They Should’ve Shown”

Posted on May.30.2007

Shoulda Shown
The alternate title was “more crap.”

– Well, friends, now it’s really over. The last gasp of the low-rated “Real World: Denver” season occurs tonight when the outtakes “S@#t They Should’ve Shown” special airs. The biggest surprise? It’s actually interesting, at least more so than 99 percent of the manufactured drama that comprised the regular season.

– We told you about the cast returning to Colorado to film scenes for it a few months ago, and as you watch the special you can see the snowy mountain backdrop of Evergreen. Watch the whole episode right here and let us know your thoughts on it. Also: desperation is funny.

Interview: Super Deluxe’s Bob Odenkirk

Derek and Simon
Derek & Simon of “Bob Odenkirk presents: Derek and Simon — the Show.”

– Now that the reality drama hurricane of “The Real World: Denver” has wound down, we’re expanding Get Real Denver to include more entertainment news and reviews. That includes concerts as they’re happening, reviews of the best nightclubs, bars and venues , music Q&As, nightlife calendars — you name it.

– To kick it off we interviewed comedian Bob Odenkirk, who you may know from SNL, HBO’s brilliant “Mr. Show,” Adult Swim’s “Tim and Eric Awesome Show,” or as the director of films like “Let’s Go to Prison” and the upcoming “The Brothers Solomon.”

– We spoke with Bob on the heels of his latest project, Derek & Simon: The Show, a series of shorts that debuted this month on the Super Deluxe comedy site…

“The Real World: Denver” Reunion

Brooke Brooke Brooke
Brooke is, once again, the center of these fine people’s attention.

– Just when you thought it was safe to forget about the crapfest that was “The Real World: Denver,” MTV comes at you with more catty exhibitionists talking about how unbelievably sweet they are. That’s right, RW Denver’s Reunion Special debuted a couple days ago on MTV and MTV.com, and it was everything we expected, which is to say, very little.

– The special starts of with a rehash of Colie’s inane, “I’m gonna miss you guys” poem from the last episode before launching into the heavily edited fun. So what was the big “secret” they teased last week? And what’s there to learn?

MTV’s side of the story / updates

Charts 1
Hello up there, ratings line!

– In this article I mentioned how “The Real World: Denver’s” Nielsen numbers were down from the previous year, signaling declining viewership. But if advertisers are still paying for spots on the show, which targets an extremely valuable audience that MTV consistently delivers, “The Real World” can still be making money even as fewer people are watching it. In fact, even with fewer viewers the show may be more valuable now than it was in the past.

– Of course, TV networks are notorious for their ability (and willingness) to spin numbers whichever way makes them look best, so it’s often hard to get a true metric of viewership. But here are some numbers furnished to The Denver Post directly from MTV’s Ariana Urbont

Westword hates “The Real World: Denver”

Posted on May.21.2007

denver
Westword’s thrilled “The Real World” has vacated our fair city.

– We’ve always known that Westword, Denver’s alternative newsweekly, was never a huge fan of “The Real World: Denver” (see this inspired stunt they pulled), but this piece from last week proves it. Are they too harsh, or are they just saying what everyone else is thinking?
