– Despite her youth, Nicole Torres is a busy, busy musician, releasing her 7th CD this Saturday at the Walnut Room. Proceeds from the door will be donated to The Spot, an urban youth outreach facility funded by Urban Peak. “The Spot provides recording studios as well as other arts facilities to youths in and around Denver. It’s a very empowering setup,” Torres said. “They also host a variety of workshops and outreach programs…”
“I have a particular interest in art-based outreach,” Torres continued. “I worked in the Denver Public Schools for awhile and with Girl Scouts of America and a lot of outreach I did with them was art-based. The girls and the kids in Denver Public responded really well to it, so I think it’s a very effective medium.”
If you want to help increase awareness of art-based outreach programs in the community, check out this folk-rock extravaganza with guests The Autumn Film, Remember May and Coles Whalen. Saturday, Dec. 8 at The Walnut Room, 3131 Walnut St. in Denver. 8:30 p.m. $7.
