Clubs: Fashion @ 5 Degrees

5 degrees
Want to see 5 Degrees filled with models? Stop by the LoDo lounge’s Courtyard Fashion Series on Friday.

Fashion shows and nightclubs go hand in hand these days. They’re a pleasant pairing for all involved: Men get to ogle models. Fashion-minded women can check out new looks. Local designers and stores display their wares to a rapt audience. Models strut. Meanwhile, the bar’s slinging drinks and raking in the cash.

No wonder they’re everywhere. It’s not quite like September in Bryant Park, but some weekends, it seems close. The next one down the catwalk is another installment of the Courtyard Fashion Series at 5 Degrees (1475 Lawrence St.).

Paulina Szafranski, vice president of marketing for Lotus Entertainment, is adamant that Friday’s show will be a cut above the rest. “To me, this is really an appreciation for all our VIPs,? says Szafranski. “We’re a little different in the fact that we give a lot.?

Models will work the catwalk in 5 Degrees’ spacious courtyard area wearing lacy numbers from Pampered Passions Fine Lingerie and summery ensembles from Eve. With the courtyard’s fountain going, and guests sipping free martinis from Three Olives, it will all be very tasteful.

The vendors and the setting fit well into the Lotus plan to keep their fashion shows infrequent and high-end. “The fashion shows we do are in summer,? says Szafranski. “It’s the courtyard aspect of it, but the (other) reason we pared it down to just the summer is because we wanted to have very healthy partners.?

Because the models will also be layered with jewelry from John Atencio, it’s fair to say Lotus is working with very healthy partners indeed. “In the industry, we are the leaders of the VIP club, and that’s the way we brand ourselves,? Szafranski says.

There’s no cover for the show, but Szafranski says it’s likely to be guest-list-only to gain entry. RSVP — quickly — at metromix.com to get on the list, though even that won’t guarantee entry if they reach capacity. The party starts at 8 p.m. Friday.

Fortunately, there’s more to come from Lotus this summer, too. On Thursday, Monarck (1416 Market St.;) hosts the “Independent Women? party to kick off the long July 4 weekend. The event is sponsored by Corona Light and women’s social group Denver Divas, so show up early for free beers from 9 to 11 p.m. and network with local ladies. (Guys, you can come have free beers, too.)

Finally, watch this space for details on Lotus Entertainment’s latest venture, Suite 200. Szafranski says the swank new spot on Larimer Square probably is going to open in August.

– PANIC PARTIES –

Jam band Widespread Panic takes up its yearly residence at Red Rocks Friday through Sunday, and the “Spreadheads? are descending on Denver. Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom and Quixote’s True Blue (2637 Welton St.) adding to the Panic panic by throwing the 2008 Rocky Mountain Power Jam after Friday’s show.

Featuring Ivan Neville of the Neville Brothers, guitarist Marc Ford and at least seven other bands, the Power Jam will start around 11 p.m. Buy $22 advance tickets online at cervantesmasterpiece.com.

– PARTY PEOPLE –

Those who will make their way to Two A.M. (1144 Broadway) on Saturday after the SoCo Music Experience at Coors Field are hardy souls, worthy of admiration. Lorin Ashton, also known as Bassnectar, is one of these warriors. After a full day of DJing at Coors Field, he’ll be headlining a night-long show at Two A.M.

Two A.M. is usually an after-hours club, but the owners are making a special exception this weekend to accommodate Bassnectar and his freaky, funky collection of beats. Advance tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $20 at groovetickets.com.
